Jesse Hu, DMA
as a teaching artist
My teaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that music is a vital force that enriches lives and fosters personal connections. I am dedicated to creating an inclusive and inspiring environment where students can cultivate a love for music, express themselves creatively, and develop the skills necessary for lifelong enjoyment and independent exploration of the piano.
Teaching Approach
Cultivate a Passion for Music and Encourage Self-Expression
I aim to inspire students to explore their musical interests and express themselves through piano, fostering a deeper connection to themselves and the world around them, and ultimately cultivating a lasting appreciation for life.
Focus on Music Literacy and Promote Lifelong Learning
My curriculum emphasizes music literacy, equipping students with the skills to read, interpret, and understand music while instilling a love for piano that encourages them to continue their musical journey independently.
Create an Inclusive Environment
I ensure that all students, regardless of their background or abilities, feel valued and supported. I incorporate a diverse repertoire, using simplified versions of popular tunes and familiar classical works, and introduce a wide range of genres and styles to help students connect with the music they love.
Guidance from practice at home to the concert stage
I emphasize effective practice techniques that make learning piano enjoyable and rewarding, helping students see their progress and stay motivated. Additionally, I foster confidence and a sense of accomplishment by encouraging students to perform regularly, showcasing their favorite music in a supportive recital setting.

It is the parent’s responsibility to see that their children practices. There is a direct relationship between regular practice and student success. Parents and students are expected to establish a regular practice time that is free from distraction and give positive reinforcement for their child’s practice. When possible, parents should help their child practice, especially at the beginning levels, If it is not possible to help directly, just being in the room while the child practices is supportive and encouraging.
Beginning-level students should practice no less than 30 minutes per day. Intermediate-level students should practice no less than 60 minutes per day.
Practice should occur at least five days per week. If this practice requirement is not followed, it is impossible to guarantee that the student will have a successful or positive learning experience.
